Pacific Flathead Borer Field Day

Pacific flatheaded borer (Chrysobothris mali, Family Buprestidae) has become an increasing pest problem in walnut orchards in the last decade. The adult (beetle) lays eggs on the branches, and larvae feed on the cambium layer, weakening and wilting the branches. In addition to tree stress from environmental factors, high heat in the summer months exacerbates the problem – we observed a high incidence of this in the 2024 season.

In the last 5 years, we have been researching this pest's biology and seasonal phenology and developing monitoring and management strategies. In the field meeting, we will share IPM information about this pest. Also, demonstrate how to identify the pest and its damage symptoms in the orchard.

2-hour DPR and CCA credits have been approved. Please register to join the field meeting on Thursday, November 21, 2024
