Nutrition & Community Wellness
We are committed to helping the residents of Humboldt and Del Norte Counties lead healthier and happier lives. We work with agencies, schools, youth programs, and others to integrate health promotion activities.
Are you interested in helping your community (school, program, organization) learn about nutrition and healthy habits? We provide nutrition education to qualifying sites, read about EFNEP below, and other resources to help our community lead healthy and active lives.
EFNEP
Central to UCCE's Nutrition program is the Expanded Food and Nutrition Extension Program (EFNEP). EFNEP's goal, while advocating for nutrition, is to help adults and their families create and maintain healthy eating habits and physically active lifestyles.
"Participants get excited to learn that small changes, like the size of our dishes, help with portion control," says Grecia Rojas, an EFNEP participant from the McKinleyville Family Resource Center.
Participants like Grecia learn and plan nutritious meals, increase physical activity, stretch their food dollar, practice safe food handling, and prevent obesity through healthy lifestyles. Click the link to learn more about our Adult and Youth EFNEP.
