Facilities

 


The Kearney Agricultural Research and Extension Center has 170,000 square feet of facilities consisting of 45 offices, 40 laboratories and 30 greenhouses. Other available resources include a postharvest lab, drying equipment, cold storage, a weighing lysimeter and a weather station.

Conferences, workshops, seminars and other educational activities are accommodated by a 240-seat conference facility and smaller meeting rooms. Office and laboratory space is available on an as-needed basis for temporary and visiting scientists. A dormitory with overnight space for 12 occupants is available.


Administration

KARE administration office provides financial, administrative, and human resource support to administration, environmental health and safety, field research and farm operations, physical plant operations and maintenance, specialized facility research operations, and the IR4-field research center. Support is also provided to researchers that reside both on and off the center.
Kearney has a fully equipped farm machinery shop staffed with skilled personnel. The shop is capable of performing most maintenance and repairs of farm machinery along with custom modification and fabrications of specialized equipment.

Kearney Agricultural Research and Extension Center has two furnished dorms to meet the housing needs of University employees conducting research or teaching activities at the center. Non-UC visiting scientists may be accommodated on a case-by-case basis.

Sewer System Management Plan

Sewer System Management Plan (SSMP) – this plan was developed to meet the requirements of the State Water Resources Control Board (SWRCB) and describes the Center’s sanitary sewer system, including measures to prevent, detect, respond to and report spills or overflow of the system. It also lists the personnel responsible for operation of the facility and implementation of the SSMP, as well as emergency response procedures.
