Why teach youth to garden?

Planning a garden, planting the seeds and watching them grow give kids a sense of purpose and responsibility. ... Furthermore, studies show that when children have contact with soil during activities like digging and planting, they have improved moods, better learning experiences and decreased anxiety.

Youth Gardening Program Mission Statement:

Our goal is to educate the youth in our community in UC research-based gardening concepts, through fun, interactive, hands-on experiences.

Mother's Day project

Mother day

Master Gardeners,

I have spoken to Master Gardener John and he has agreed to come to Figarden Elementary.

MG John will assist our 100 first graders in planting succulents for Mother’s Day Project.

Thank you for having this wonderful program.
