- This report focuses on the effectiveness of conventional and alternative lateral spacing of sprinkler irrigators in reducing water usage and increase N fertilizer efficiency in a carrot cropping system.
Results
- Lateral sprinkler spacing between 33-47 feet did not differentially influence yield, N distribution, or nitrate leaching.
- The results of this study suggest that natural variability in soil characteristics, as opposed to lateral spacings, are the most important control of deep water percolation and nitrate leaching when irrigation is properly scheduled.
