2018 Track Information
Track 1
Participants that are attending Track 1 are expected to complete Modules 1-3 of the “Using SPSS” courses in eXtension. Each module is approximately 1 hour long. Module files are available on the course webpage, including a PDF of the presentation slides, practice data and syntax and optional “homework” assignments for further practice. The homework does not need to be completed for attendance at the institute, but it is encouraged. If you have questions about the modules or assignments, you can contact Kendra. It is also recommended that you attend open office hours on the second Friday of each month from 10am-12pm on Zoom (https://ucanr.zoom.us/j/643557439) with Kendra to discuss any questions. Upcoming dates are: September 14 and October 12. Information on accessing the modules can be found in the “Enrollment Instructions” document.

During Track 1, we will be using the data below. Please take a few moments to look over the description of the data. Pleas also download a copy of the data to your computer, and try opening it in SPSS before you arrive at the institute. If you are having trouble, please arrive early for assistance. The "Track 1 Notes" are a guide if you'd like to take notes as we work through the day.
Track 2
For this year’s RMPDI, we would once again like to help facilitate research collaborations. We value research collaborations because they allow us to conduct larger, higher quality studies by combining and diversifying samples and building on each other’s energy to keep things moving forward. In addition, many times the more exciting projects emerge from partnerships that combine different interests, so collaborating with someone who has different interests might reveal some exciting findings.
To facilitate research collaborations, we are asking for volunteers to present their research projects or ideas. Please consider presenting, whether you are new to the system or have a longstanding multi-county project. We have a lot of new advisors (NCFS, 4-H, YFC) and we want opportunities for everyone to have opportunities to be a part of an active research group. We are asking for two types of presentations:
- If you have an idea for a research project that you would like to pursue as a multi-county project
- If you are part of an existing multi-county project and you have opportunities for new collaborators, please consider presenting. Note, this call is to present current and future opportunities that are available for new members (for example, in 4-H, the Youth Retention Study; in NFCS, the longitudinal study of behavior change). This is not a call to present past work. For example, your group might be wrapping up some papers and there are opportunities for new members to join and help plan next steps (e.g., implementation of what has been learned, testing new research questions that have emerged) or your group might have collected a lot of data and there are roles available to analyze and disseminate results
If you would like to present, please let us know:
- What is the research topic or goal of the project
- What stage are you at in its development (e.g., idea, designing, piloting)
- What roles are available (e.g., help design project, analyze collected data, dissemination)
- How does it align with statewide goals, such as EFNEP, ANR, Strategic Initiatives, and/or 4-H strategic plans
There will be time on Day 1, if you choose Track 2, to work on these presentations with guidance available from Kali and/or other mentors.
