Legendary CSIT programmer Steve Edberg recently received his fifteen-year Distinguished Service Award.
Steve has been with UC ANR for the last five years, but his history with the UC system goes back even farther. His long association with UC began as a Davis undergraduate and a proud student employee of the Unitrans system. He joined UC staff full-time in 1998 to work for the UC Davis Plant Sciences department and the Genome Center. The opportunity to build a new biotech start-up lured Steve off campus in 2008, but he happily returned the academic world in 2013 when he joined the ANR Web Action Team.
Steve's programming achievements go all the way back to high school gigs at the Jet Propulsion Lab near his hometown of La Cañada in southern California. While at ANR, he has worked on a number of important projects, including Identity Management, the Volunteer Management System and the On-line Record Book Development.
When not solving tricky programming challenges at ANR, Steve is a proud caretaker to his seven rescue cats (Cole, Fin, Iris, Pink, Omio, Rema and Sylvester), a veteran drummer in many local Prog Rock bands (including the infamous Ted's Exploding Head) and a devoted connoisseur of the craft beers at the Sudwerk Dock.
Despite much evidence to the contrary, Steve assures us he no longer uses punch cards to load his programs.
