Biography
Since 1976, Lawrence Yee has been employed as an academic staff member of the University of California Cooperative Extension. In 1986, he was appointed director of the Ventura County office, supervising nine academic staff and twenty research and support staff. He provides leadership for applied research and extension education programs in agriculture and natural resources, family and consumer sciences, and youth development. He is also the founder and a board member of the Hansen Trust, a multi-million dollar University of California endowment established to sustain and benefit agriculture in Ventura County. Mr. Yee has served on two national USDA Extension strategic planning committees, one on organizational diversity and the other on agriculture and natural resources. In 1995, he was the co-coordinator of a statewide leadership development program for the UC Division of Agriculture and Natural Resources. Mr. Yee received his B.S. in biological sciences from UC Davis in 1969 and an MBA from the University of Santa Clara in 1983. He has been a Kellogg Foundation Fellow at the Resources for the Future Institute (1987) and is a graduate of the National Extension Leadership Development Program (1994). In 1996, Mr. Yee spent a year's sabbatical leave working with Dee W. Hock, founder and President and CEO Emeritus of VISA International. In close association with Mr. Hock, he assisted various groups around the country to completely re-conceive and create new forms of complex and adaptive organizations following a "chaordic" model developed by Mr. Hock. He continues to work on projects with the Chaordic Alliance Mr. Yee currently serves on the boards of Northwest Atlantic Marine Alliance, Community Alliances of Interdependent Agriculture, Center for Earth Concerns, Ojai Valley Library Foundation, and is a member of the President's Council for Project Food, Land, and People. Mr. Yee is married, has two children, and resides in Ojai, California.
