Vine Mealybug Controls in California Vineyards Dr. Kent M. Daane (July 24, 2024)
- In this webinar, Dr. Kent Daane discussed vine mealybug controls in California vineyards. He focused on vine mealybug seasonal population change and damage to vines, mealybug species as vectors of grape leafroll associated viruses, and chemical, biological, and behavioral controls. He also discussed future research on novel controls. (Presentation slides in PDF format)
Monitoring Western Grapeleaf Skeletonizer in Wine Grape Vineyards Dr. Carmen Gispert (May 8, 2024)
-
Dr. Carmen Gispert discussed the biology, damage, and signs of infestation of Western grapeleaf skeletonizer. She discussed a pilot project to validate a flight sensor trap which was used to monitor the Western grapeleaf skeletonizer in wine grape vineyards. Dr. Gispert discussed flight sensor traps as a promising alternative of sticky traps to monitor insects and quantify insects in real time data. The presentation also touched on control methods such as natural enemies and organic treatments. (Presentation slides in PDF format including additional slides not presented)
Insects in the Vineyard by Dr. Cindy Kron (April 19, 2023)
-
Dr. Cindy Kron discussed the importance of proper insect identification in IPM and discussed which insects in vineyards are known pests and cause damage or vector pathogens that cause disease, and which are beneficial (should be protected) or neutral (no action is needed). Concepts of economic thresholds in IPM were discussed; what they are and how are they used to make informed pest management decisions. She also discussed how to identify all life stages of spotted lanternfly. (Presentation slides in PDF format)
Grape Powdery Mildew Management and Challenges (August 11, 2021)
- In this 2-hour webinar, various speakers from UC and UCCE discussed powdery mildew identification and biology; history of sulfur use, formulations, mode of application, and role in resistance management; air-assisted sprayer settings, air induction nozzles, and using spray cards to assess coverage; the effect of certain weather conditions on drift; powdery mildew fungicide resistance and the importance of FRAC codes; and the efficacy of various products for the management of powdery mildew in vineyards.
