I found out today that I previously misread the label of a new herbicide registered in several California orchard crops.
Broadworks Herbicide (from Syngenta) was registered in fall 2015 on several citrus, stone fruit, and tree nut crops (but not every crop in those groups).
I'm not entirely sure if I misread the label or if I simply made a typo when I last updated the T&V Herbicide Registration chart (which is totally possible after you've read several dozens of labels). At any rate, I erroneously listed mesotrione as registered on peach in my November update of that chart; however, Broadworks is not actually currently registered on that...

I was lucky enough to be able to attend the Western Society of Weed Science last week down in Albuquerque, and it was a great time! As always there was quality information presented throughout the meeting along with great discussion about weeds inside and outside of the sessions. There were over 250 people in attendance, fifty of whom were students. Sixty five posters were presented and ninety two talks were given about weeds, with sessions in agricultural crops, horticultural crops, rangelands, basic biology, and teaching/technology.
In the general session there was an interesting public interest story mentioned. It was about goats being used for invasive weed control within a park in Salem, Oregon. Seventy five of the animals...

In January, the California Weed Science Society held its annual symposium in Sacramento and WOW, what a conference! This year's conference theme was Addressing Diverse and Dynamic Challenges in Weed Management. The program was chuck full of content showcasing the latest research in weed management in many of California's abundant cropping systems as well as aquatics, forestry, range, and natural areas.
This year's student competition was full of cutting edge research that will lead to better weed management. Fifteen students from all over the state representing five different colleges showcased their work in weed science.
