Multifactor Authentication (MFA) is implemented throughout the UC system to protect accounts and information. Duo is the MFA solution being implemented at UC Davis and many other campuses. In addition to your username and password, a second level of identity verification is required to have access to the applications. By requiring two methods of authentication, user logins can be protected from remote hacks or phishing attacks that may exploit stolen user names and passwords. The Duo solution is simple to set up and flexible, yet provides an additional level of enhanced security to protect UC ANR systems. MFA\Duo provides this second level of security by sending an approval request to a pre-approved device, e.g., your smartphone.
Part of the MFA solution, physical tokens are also used for authentication. These tokens generate a onetime password for logging into your accounts. Currently, Currently, smartphones, non-smart cell phones, and landlines are supported. We’ll provide an update once the token usage is authorized and tokens become available.
Here are two short videos about Duo. Video1 Video2
