Important Dates:

Orientation: Tuesday, April 4th -6:00 pm to 8:00 pm OR Saturday, April 15th 9:00 am to 11:00 am

This mandatory orientation meeting is required attendance. If you can not attend either of these meetings please call or email our office to make other arrangements. It is strongly recommended you attend ONE of these two scheduled orientations.

2017 Training Dates

Tuesdays in June and July 2017 are our training dates. Times for training are 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Application Deadline is April 28th

Once applications have been submitted, the next step is to attend the Interview Day (actually a morning). The interview is a 15-20 minute interview with two current Master Food Preservers. Upon completion of the interview, applicants will be notified by email of their acceptance. Classes start Tuesday June 6th at 8 am. We look forward to joining us!

Master Food Preserver Training

Master Food Preservers receive an intensive 2½ month training program in home food preservation. Instruction provides practical courses in the following topics

  • Food safety
  • Water bath and pressure canning
  • Canning jams & jellies
  • Pickling
  • Dehydrating fruits and vegetables
  • Freezing foods

Classes meet weekly, with multiple hands-on labs to learn the food preservation techniques, with outside study in addition to class time. Weekly quizzes and a final examination prepares the trainees to begin their first year.
