#ShutDownAcademia time for reflection - Wednesday, June 10

At a time when the injustices and inequities inflicted on Black and Brown people in this country are exposed for all to see, we have to ask ourselves how we can create a society that is fair for all. Those of us in academia and STEM are being asked to devote some time tomorrow to focus attention on eradicating racism in academia and STEM: #Strike4BlackLives, #ShutDownSTEM, and #ShutDownAcademia.

Please take some time tomorrow to think individually and collectively. Based on your research and outreach experience, what can UC ANR do to make the world a better place for people of color, both within the UC ANR community and across the state? Those of you who work directly with people in the counties see the disparities firsthand. What can the rest of us learn from your vantage point?

UC ANR's mission is to “improve the lives all Californians” and a key goal in UC ANR's Strategic Plan is improvement of equity, inclusion and diversity in our program delivery and our workplace. We look forward to hearing in the coming days your ideas and suggestions for making UC ANR, California and our world more equitable, just and inclusive. We will provide various ways to collect your thoughts and ideas in the next few days.

Sincerely,
