If you produce pork and want to be certified under Prop 12 requirements, CDFA, an accredited certifying agent, or another recognized governmental entity can provide a Certificate of Compliance. The Animal Care Program has a list of accredited agents: https://www.cdfa.ca.gov/AHFSS/AnimalCare/AccreditedCertifyingAgents.html. Each certifying agent will have their own application for certification and a schedule of fees for service. If you want CDFA to conduct the certifying services, you will need to fill out and submit CDFA’s application form available at https://www.cdfa.ca.gov/AHFSS/pdfs/acp-73-003.pdf.
California Rancher Sustainability Assessment (CRSA)
The CRSA is a digital self-assessment that can help ranchers to find out how sustainable their ranch practices are, from managing forage, to planning for drought, or planning how to transfer the ranch to the next generation. Visit the CRSA by clicking here, to take self-assessment modules and access the resource library!
Plant ID and Weed Management Quick Links
Need to identify plants on your property? Try using the UC Weed Research and Information Center/University of Wisconsin Weed ID tool, here. *Change the "Search location" to California, on the top right corner of the page! It defaults to Wisconsin.
If the Weed ID tool doesn't help, you can bring specimens or send photos to the Fresno office for assistance. When taking photos of an unknown plant, try to include images of the leaves, stem, and flowers or seeds (if present). Sometimes pictures of the roots can also help.
Looking for weed management options on a specific plant? Check out the UC Pest Notes here, or you can search "plant name + UC Weed Report" in your internet browser and should find free excerpts from the book, Weed Control in Natural Areas in the Western United States. You can purchase the physical book, which is our go-to resource for weed control options, here or at your local UCCE office for about $35.
Concerned a plant may be toxic to your animals? Check out the free guide, Livestock-Poisoning Plants of California, for images, details about animals symptoms, and management recommendations.
