High Resolution Global-Scale Precipitation Climatology Record Using Satellite Observations and Artificial Neural Network Models

Technological advances in observations from earth-orbiting satellites has resulted in an immense amount of data which is ever-growing in size with every passing minute on the clock. At the same time, we have witnessed great progress in the development of sophisticated machine learning and artificial intelligence algorithms capable of processing vast amount of data and converting them into a variety of useful information.

In this short presentation, the development of the Precipitation Estimation from Remotely Sensed Information using Artificial Neural Networks (PERSIANN) system which provides a range of high-resolution global precipitation products now available and used for variety of weather- and climate-scale studies will be reviewed.
