It's the end of September and officially Fall now. Let's start thinking about what to plant for spring color. Today on In the Garden with UC Master Gardeners, UC Master Gardener Sally Richards talks with Horticulturist Steve Hampson from Roger's Gardens.

Sally and Steve will discuss the differences between two primary forms of underground food storage systems. That boring, technical description is exactly what Bulbs (e.g., Amaryllis, Daffodil) and Corms (e.g., Gladiolus, Freesia, Crocus) are and why they produce such glorious color every year. Steve Hampson is an expert on his favorite bulb, the Daffodil! Learn the best ones to plant in the fall and how to care for them.
You'll even pick up some insight into the differences between California gardens and colder portions of the US. Did you know you can grow one of the most expensive spices in the world in your bulb garden? That's right! Saffron comes from the Crocus sativus corm! Master Gardeners are sponsoring some classes soon on this and other subjects. Listen for the Current Events portion of the show only during the Thursday morning LIVE on-air or the web broadcast.
