Where do most plants come from? Well, SEEDS, of course!
So now is the time to start your cool season garden from seed. For this topic called “Seed Starting for the Fall Season”, KUCI Host and UC Master Gardener Dece Morgan will talk to fellow Master Gardener and host Teena Spindler about the most inexpensive way to start a bountiful vegetable garden.
Some seeds don't take much to germinate but others may take a little coaxing. Key is consistent water (soil moisture). Learn from the best here on In the Garden with UC Master Gardeners.

/h4>/h2>/h3>/h2>This week on In the Garden with UC Master Gardeners, we replay a show re-aired just two weeks ago on Mosquitoes. New information has come up of interest to the Southern California public.
Your host MG Dece Morgan will pass that along to you. Guests are Laura Krueger Prelesnik, Vector Ecologist and Board-Certified Entomologist with OC Mosquito and Vector Control District (2019) and Mary-Joy Coburn, Director of Community Affairs of the Greater LA County Vector Control District (2020).
What some consider a nuisance at picnics or unbearable in places like the South or even Alaska can really be deadly if they carry certain diseases like West Nile, malaria, or dengue. That is why it is extremely important to pay attention to areas around your home that become breeding grounds for the pests.
Prime example are French drains or underground drainage systems where water can pool if the slope is inadequate, or it becomes blocked. Learn about where those places are likely to be and how to protect you, your family, and neighbors from all the different mosquitoes we have here in Orange County.

/h4>/h2>/h3>/h2>If you've ever been up Modjeska Canyon in, oh say, the LAST 90 YEARS or so, you might have found a very special sanctuary.
This week on In the Garden with UC Master Gardeners, we go out into the field, literally, with one of our first remote broadcasts in 2018! KUCI Host and UC Master Gardener Dece Morgan visits the Tucker Wildlife Sanctuary.
What used to be called a wild bird sanctuary run by the Audubon Society in the 50's and 60's, it has just recently been acquired by ENC (The Environmental Nature Center - a Newport Beach gem. Check the website encenter.org/tucker/ for opening plans.) and focuses on wildlife, native plants, as well as all the special bird species unique to the sage/chaparral/woodland/riparian environments of Orange County mountain areas. Dece's guest was Marcella Gilchrist, Site Manager at Tucker at the time of the interview. Learn about a true wonder in the wilds of Orange County.

/h4>/h2>/h3>/h2>The first Thursday of every month on In the Garden, UC Master Gardeners and KUCI staff host Katrina Kirkeby and Teena Spindler bring you tips and hints about the most important things to consider for the coming month.
The month of August will be one of the warmest months so not much planting to do but your summer veggies are ripening and, of course, pay attention to water needs.
Trim back just about anything when the flowers fade to keep the garden tidy, encourage more flowers, and prevent reseeding. UC Master Gardeners are at the Orange County Fair until the 15th ready to answer your gardening questions.
