The spotted lanternfly (Lycorma delicatula) is a new exotic pest that was first detected in Pennsylvania in 2014 and has since moved to other nearby states (Figure 1). Everyone, including home gardeners and retail nursery and garden center employees, can play a significant role in keeping this exotic pest out of California by being the eyes and ears needed for early detection.

Abandoned Citrus Groves Can Become Breeding Grounds for Asian Citrus Psyllid

Abandoned and neglected groves become a breeding ground for the Asian citrus psyllid if they are left untreated or are not removed. Efforts to identify and address these citrus groves in California continue to be an important part of psyllid control programs.

The following press release was distributed on October 17, 2016 by the California Department of Food and Agriculture.

Insect that carries disease deadly to citrus trees found in Placer County.

A portion of Placer County has been placed under quarantine for Asian citrus psyllid (ACP) following the detection of multiple life stages on citrus trees within the City of Lincoln.

The quarantine zone in Placer County measures 118 square miles, bordered on the north by Riosa Road; on the south by the Roseville City Limit; on the west by Brewer Road; and on the east by Fowler Road. The quarantine map for Placer County is available online at:
