Jose Aguiar forwarded me the link to Air Burners portable pyrolysis unit:

I do not mean to promote their unit over others, rather mention how important portable units could become. I was on a program at Parlier some months back where several manufacturers displayed similar systems, and the amount of grower interest was surprising. Being able to turn waste directly into biochar is huge for many growers who are interested in biochar and have a biomass disposal problem. There is a lot of biomass piled up in many places in California, with few good options for disposal.

The United States Biochar Initiative 2018 Conference will be in Wilmington, DE August 20-23. While the conference focuses on water quality, it will cover the waterfront of biochar production, use, etc. I have been to several and have enjoyed them all and learned a lot. Academics, biochar producers, users, pretty much everyone that has anything to do with biochar attends. And the vendor shows are usually quite good. All the others have had just the right number of attendees -- enough so you see a lot of people, but small enough to really get to know most of them. Lots of group meals and other events so you get the chance to see everyone.

What: The use of biochar in agriculture is a topic that has been generating interest across California. New products are being developed for agricultural applications, and new research on the effects of biochar in cropping systems is underway at many universities.
The California Department of Food and Agriculture's (CDFA) Fertilizer Research and Education Program (FREP) is teaming up with Department of Land, Air and Water Resources and Agricultural Sustainability Institute of the University of California, Davis, to host a Biochar Field Day. The event will bring together researchers, industry representatives and other interested stakeholders to discuss the feasibility of biochar in agroecosystems. Presentations will highlight research, showcase available resources, and provide up-to-date information on biochar in California agriculture.
