I released some lady bugs I bought at Merced nursery three years ago onto my aphid-laden artemisia plant. The beetle not only stayed but they have been there every year since. Right now there are several stages of life in evidence, most munching on the aphids.

Maybe these are not typical ladybugs?

If I had an indoor rosebush struggling with aphids would it work to put a glass over the plant to keep the beetles inside and then release them after a few days?

I recently treated my garden with a chemical spray to get rid of aphids.Today a friend surprised me with a container of live ladybugs. What can I do to safely use them without the already applied spray killing them? Do I rinse the plants first and wait?

I get lady bugs every year a lot of them stick around. They work great and it's a fun event if you hand your helper the container right after you open it. I will never do anything other they work and solve the problem fast.

Every year in the past that I've tried ladybugs, they've always flown away. Last year we used ladybugs in a community garden, and not only did they stay on a bed of pea plants, but they started reproducing like crazy, eggs and larvae were everywhere. On top of that, wasps, flies, and a different species of grey ladybug were attracted, and the whole thing became a literal buzzing hive of biodiversity. It was nuts.

I have a Linden tree in front of my house that gets aphids each summer. So bad that our cars are covered with their sticky residue every day. We have had days where the windows get stuck and won't go down. Will ladybugs work in a tree? Its a city tree and we cant have it cut down.

Iā€™m infested with wooly aphids. Iā€™ve been using Bauer tree and shrub pesticide(which is supposed to last 12 months, and didnā€™t). Will ladybugs eat all of them? I have many trees around my home, the aphids get on everything. Plants, mostly trees, and you know what happens when the y start sucking the sap out of leaves. My neighborhood is badly infested. What can I do for next year? Desperate, thank you

Roger, you have our sympathies. "No, ladybugs (lady beetles) do not typically eat 100% of the aphids on plants," says Karey Windbiel of UC Integrated Pest Managment." Itā€™s hard to say what type of aphid you have without knowing what trees or plants they are attacking. If they aphids are woolly, it could be the hackberry woolly aphid which you can find out more about at http://ipm.ucanr.edu/PMG/PESTNOTES/pn74111.html . If I already sprayed my plants with a vinegar and water mixture to kill aphids, how long do I have to wait to release my ladybugs

Hi Tonya, Karey Windbiel, UC Integrated Pest Management advisor, says "Vinegar is not a treatment recommended by UC IPM for aphid control, so we have no information on how vinegar will affect aphids or the ladybugs (lady beetles) who consume them. Since it is still warm in many areas of California and aphids are still founds on some plants, you could release lady beetles now. However, as we get closer to the winter months, the lady beetles will start to seek overwintering sites and may not stick around to eat the aphids. Read more about aphids and their control at http://ipm.ucanr.edu/PMG/PESTNOTES/pn7404.html or contact your local UC Master Gardener for help in determining what aphid pest you have and finding the most appropriate and effective solutions. http://mg.ucanr.edu/FindUs/"

I dont know if its infested in the whole area bit I know our tree out front has them. I was too excite and scared so i released the ladybugs in the back yard porch instead. Will the lady bugs be able to make their way around? Or should I go buy some more?

Hi, last two years I released ladybugs, about 200 each year, onto 2 small fruit trees (under 3m), two grape vines, and 2 large blackcurrant bushes. This winter I consider the winter tree wash or dormant oil. I am worried it might kill the ladybugs. What would you advise? I need to get rid of whatever is eating my orchard! Last summer it suffered from black and green aphids. Please advise!

I released my ladybugs into my new greenhouse last night and opened the doors this morning so it wouldnā€™t get too hot. I have tons of aphids on my jalapeƱos so I thought they would stay. I got home from work and they are all gone with the exception of one dead ladybug on the ground. What did I do wrong?

We live in Florida with a large screen enclosure that has a planting area that is infested with spider mites. Would lady bugs be a good remedy for the infestation?

I have about 350 rose bushes in our farm that got infested after the farmers sprayed their fields,
A huge storm called a deracho? With over 100 mile an hour winds and rain washed them all away but now they are coming back, before the storm I was trying chemicals but that was killing all the good bugs. We have released one round of lady bugs but lost many of them due to refrigeration for a few days... heat was high 90ā€™s.
How many do you think I need to help clean this large a rose garden?

Hi, I am trying to get rid of the ants that are cultivating the aphids on my 4 year old crepe myrtles. I applied acetaphate dust around the bottom of each tree up to the lower 1ā€ā€ of trunk. I want to purchase lady bugs or lacewings to eat the aphids, but donā€™t want to poison them. What is the best way to get rid of the ants before I get a beneficial insect?

When I find an aphid infested plant in my garden, I place netted bag with a draw string tightened around the base of the plant, then turn about 50 ladybugs loose inside. They don't fly away because they're inside the bag with the plant, but of course you need to take care of them by lightly misting the plant with water every morning. In about 5 days, the plants are free of aphids. I leave the bag alone for another 5 days to make sure all larvae are also eliminated. During the last few days, I also feed them a small amount of wheast diluted in the spray bottle (brewers yeast, honey, water, thin liquid so ladybugs don't stick to it). These bags can be purchased at Amazon at low cost -- they are actually intended to protect fruiting plants from birds, but they work great to keep ladybugs around. At the end of period, I either move to the next plant, or remove the netting so ladybugs can roam/fly at will.

I put pesticides on my plants on 4/25/22 and on 4/27/22 i just got ladybugs. How long after putting the donā€™t bug me spray do I have to wait to put ladybugs on the plants without killing them?

I purchased ladybug and place a netting over the small peach tree in the yard. It doesn't seen that the ladybug ate anything. They rose to the top of the netting and stayed there for day. I took the netting off as I was afraid the ladybugs would die in the Houston, TX heat. Any suggestion as I am going to release more at dusk on my rose bushes after I mist them.
