Auburn, CA – March 29, 2016 – Lleyton Rutz and Leila Doty, members of Placer County 4-H, have been honored for their exemplary volunteer service with a President's Volunteer Service Award.
The award, which recognizes Americans of all ages who have volunteered significant amounts of their time to serve their communities and their country, was granted by The Prudential Spirit of Community Awards program on behalf of President Barack Obama. Placer County 4-H nominated Lleyton and Leila for national honors this fall in recognition of their volunteer service.
Lleyton fulfilled his volunteer hours through his times spent on BrickDreams, a nationally recognized charity that gathers donated LEGOs from across the country, sorts them, and redistributes them to child victims of domestic violence and abuse. At the time of his application, BrickDreams had donated 1,000 lbs of LEGO to children who are served. Lleyton also received the Certificate of Excellence award indicating service work that was deemed within the top 10 percent of applications within the state of California.
Leila coordinated a wide variety of community service opportunities for 4-H youth members of the Dry Creek 4-H Club to participate in. Through her projects, youth learned about the different ways they could help others so that they could discover the many ways they had the power to give back. Her projects have been a success; serving many less fortunate and inspiring youth to enjoy volunteerism.
The Prudential Spirit of Community Awards, sponsored by Prudential Financial in partnership with the National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP), recognizes middle level and high school students across America for outstanding volunteer service.
