Do you know of a 4-H volunteer who has gone above and beyond? Nominate them for the annual Judy Waller Awards!
Judy Waller, the wife of long-time 4-H Advisor, Ben Waller, was a school teacher who also lived a full 4-H life. Not only did she raise three children, support Ben's hectic schedule of meetings, and teach school, but she made time to be a 4-H leader in the Glenwood 4-H Club. Judy died in an automobile accident in 1981.
Proceeds from this fund are to reward and encourage adult leadership in the 4-H program. In the name of three former 4-H leaders, three leaders are recognized annually with one of the following awards: the Judy Waller Outstanding Teacher Award, the Naomi Kern Inspirational Leader Award, or the Virgil Groves Dedicated Leader Award.
- Virgil Groves Most Inspirational Leader Award - A leader, who, by example and effort, has inspired you and others to higher goals and ideals
- Naomi Keirn Most Dedicated Leader Award - A leader who has given a great deal of time and effort to the 4-H program in your club or the county.
- Judy Waller 4-H Teacher Award - A leader who has been an outstanding teacher leader of members or other leaders in project
The winners will be recognized at the annual Awards Night in August and will received an engraved plaque.
Nominations are encouraged from members, leaders, parents, clubs, or project groups. This is the greatest expression of thanks at the county level that you can give a volunteer who has made a meaningful contribution to 4-H youth of San Joaquin County.
To nominate someone, please complete a Judy Waller Memorial Leader Recognition Nomination form and submit it to the County 4-H office by 5:00pm on August 1st.
