Dear Colleagues,
The Foundation for Food and Agriculture Research (FFAR) is accepting pre-applications for the Seeding Solutions funding opportunity, starting in January 2020. Seeding Solutions Grants are an open call for innovative research projects that support one of FFAR's Challenge Areas. Through the 2020 Seeding Solutions Program, FFAR anticipates funding at least one meritorious proposal in each of our Challenge Areas.
FFAR encourages applicants to reach out to the managing Scientific Program Director for their Challenge Area of interest to hone their ideas prior to submitting a pre-proposal.
The Challenges Areas are:

- Health-Agriculture Nexus - supports innovative, systems level approaches aimed at reducing food and nutritional insecurity and improving human health in the United States and around the globe. Health-Agriculture Nexus research addresses inefficiencies in the food system to improve food and nutrition security and human health through sustainable food production practices. This work will emphasize novel processing and packaging technologies, transformational approaches to increase food access, innovative food waste reduction strategies, and predictive methodologies that inform the supply of and demand for individual crops. Lucyna Kurtyka, lkurtyka@foundationfar.org
- Next Generation Crops - supports the development of non-traditional crops and creates new economic opportunities for conventional crops that will increase future crop diversity and farm profitability. Next Generation Crops research aims to support the advancement of novel, nutritious, profitable and resilient farm crops. Jeff Rosichan, jrosichan@foundationfar.org
- Soil Health – focuses on building knowledge, fueling innovation and enabling the adoption of soil management practices. LaKisha Odom, lodom@foundationfar.org
- Sustainable Water Management - focuses on sustainably increases water availability and water efficiency for agricultural use, reduces agricultural water pollution and develops water reuse technologies using a coordinated landscape approach. The Sustainable Water Management Challenge area focuses on identifying research that contributes to understanding and reducing water scarcity, while addressing the social and economic realities that challenge farmers, ranchers, private businesses and other stakeholders in meeting the demand for increased productivity. LaKisha Odom, lodom@foundationfar.org
