Prevention of Discrimination, Sexual Violence and Sexual Harassment
The University of California Division of Agriculture and Natural Resources is committed to creating and maintaining a community where all individuals who participate in University programs and activities can work together in an atmosphere free of violence, harassment, discrimination, exploitation or intimidation. Every member of the community should be aware that the University prohibits, in accordance with its policies, discrimination, bias, retaliation, sexual assault, sexual harassment, domestic violence, dating violence, and stalking. Such behavior violates both law and University policy. The University will respond promptly and effectively to any report of harassment and discrimination and will take appropriate action to prevent, correct, and when necessary, discipline behavior that violates University policy.
Who to contact
If you believe you have been subjected to discrimination or if you or someone you know is experiencing sexual harassment or sexual violence, the Interim Discrimination/Affirmative Action Compliance/Title IX Officer, John Fox (mail to: jsafox@ucanr.edu(phone: (530) 750-1343), can provide information and assistance.

Depending on what information is shared, action by the University may be limited. The Discrimination/Title IX Officer will determine appropriate next steps as required by relevant laws and policies.

Key policies covering anti-discrimination, disability, sexual harassment or violence:
The University of California is committed to nondiscrimination in employment and creating and maintaining a workplace free of harassment.
- UCOP Policy on Reasonable Accommodation
The policy addresses when the University and the employee will engage in an interactive process to identify possible options for reasonably accommodating an employee’s disability.
The University prohibits sexual harassment and sexual violence, and such behavior violates both law and University policy.
Training covering sexual harassment or sexual violence
Training on the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) is available to all UC ANR employees through the UC Learning Center. This 30-minute narrated online course promotes the awareness and prevention of domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, stalking and consent to UC incoming students and new employees, including faculty, academics and staff. Also, the course provides options for safe bystander intervention, information on reporting an offense and other resources.
All employees who supervise others and other designated employees are required to complete sexual harassment prevention training every two years. In addition to staff supervisors, most academic employees (including all faculty) have been identified as having supervisory authority for the purposes of this law, and are required to receive the training. New supervisors must complete this training within six months of assuming supervisory responsibilities. This is mandated by State Assembly Bill 1825, which went into effect in 2005. Supervisors may meet this requirement by completing an online course through the UC Learning Center.
