Intern Expectations
Interns
Interns are expected to present themselves in a professional manner while representing Fresno State and the University of California. This includes being timely, dressing appropriately, no cell phone use while teaching, etc.
Youth
First Week
- Introduce lesson to the intern and go over class room etiquette.
- The intern should shadow 1-2 lessons before being incorporated into teaching.
- Depending on interns experience and comfortability they can begin teaching slowly.
- Example: Lesson 1-2 observe/ Lesson 3-4 MyPlate intro/ Lesson 5 MyPlate intro + Book Reading/ Lesson 6 MyPlate hands and activity
- If it is towards the end of the first week they should at least teach one full lesson on their own.
Second Week
- Interns should be able to teach more full-length lessons.
- Example: Lesson 1 MyPlate intro/ Lesson 2-3 MyPlate Intro+ Book/ Lesson 4-6 MyPlate Intro + Book+ Activity
Adult Lessons
First Week
- Interns will have a brief background in the following lesson enhancement activities:
- MyPlate Overview and Key messages
- What's that smell: Spice activity
- Fast Food Facts
- Smart Cart Other Cart
- Allow interns to shadow and observe most of the adult lessons.
- Incorporate intern into the lesson:
- Direct questions for intern to answer
- Passing out handouts
- Assist with PA or Food Demo
Second Week:
- Interns may begin to take more of a lead role in the activity or segment they teach in each lesson.
- Lead in PA/ Recipe
- Lesson enhancement activity
- Going over handouts
