Preschool Lesson Plans

Children received education directly in the classroom setting. These materials were developed and provided by UC Cooperative Extension. Teachers were provided with training and technical assistance on the use of the materials.

Materials used a literacy-based model that integrated age appropriate, visually stimulating storybooks that were central to the objective. All materials directly aligned with Desired Results Developmental Profiles (DRDP) for program integration. Lessons were selected to provide coordinated messaging with the Family Education Nights and support child obesity prevention objectives.

The objectives and story books included:

Ratatouille (9 activities)- Trying new foods, eating more fruits and vegetables, cooking and eating at home.
Feast for 10 (5 activities)- Meal planning, shopping, cooking and eating at home, focus on family meals, trying new foods.
D.W. The Picky Eater (5 activities)- Trying new foods, eating more fruits and vegetables, focus on family meals, eating balanced meals.
The Very Hungry Caterpillar (7 activities)- Portion sizes, hunger cues, eating more fruits and vegetables, trying new foods, balanced meals, .
We Like To Move (6 activities)- Being more physically active as a family.
From The Farm To The Table (7 activities)- Eating more fruits and vegetables.
Taking Care of My Teeth (4 activities)- Setting healthy routines.
My Daddy Is A Pretzel (6 activities)- Being more physically active as a family.
Sleep Is For Everyone (4 activities)- Setting healthy routines, getting adequate sleep.
Green Eggs & Ham (5 activities)- Trying new foods, meal planning, eating a variety of foods.
Growing Vegetable Soup (8 activities)- Eating more fruits and vegetables, cooking and eating at home.
