Welcome to our landing page for our Rangeland Curriculum. All of our curriculum is offered for free on Teachers Pay Teachers. Links for each curriculum are below. Come learn about our California Rangelands with Poppy, our red Queensland Heeler mascot.
4th-6th Grade, Our Rangelands Curriculum
Help your students learn about 55% of California's land mass, rangelands, while also teaching Life Science, Ecology, Social Science and Experimentation among other topics. The entire curriculum has five (5) units, each with lessons that last about 90 minutes and activities. Supplies needed are primarily paper and copies.
High School:
Introduction to Rangeland Management
Students will learn what a rangeland is, how it differs from other lands. The 5 basic concepts of Rangeland Management; the importance of soil; the animals and people on rangelands and more. This includes slides, activities, quizzes and unit test.
Plant Anatomy and Morphology
Students learn to identify parts of plants and put together a plant collection. As with the other units in the High School curriculum, this unit contains everything you need to teach this subject.
Soil Science
Unit 3 is all about Soils. Teach soils like a pro, have kids making a ribbon to determine their soil texture and keep learning more! Everything you need in one download.
Rangeland Use and Monitoring
Critical thinking and math come into play in this lesson. Calculating carrying capacity, using Ecological Site Descriptions, creating inventory methods and monitoring plans. How invassive plants impact our natural resources.
Fire Ecology
The sixth unit in the Rangeland Curriculum is all about Fire Ecology. Unfortunately California has a history with fire, which we are seeing too much of right now. This unit goes over basic fire ecology and helps students think creatively about why our state has a history with wildfires, and how we can mitigate for them. All you need to teach like a pro is included! This can be taught with the other units, or as a stand alone.
Ranch Management Plan
This is essentially a capstone project if you used the previous six units. This lesson lets the students have ownership on an imaginary piece of property and use what they have learned from the previous units to create a management plan. Student creativity and critical thinking shines through in this unit.
