Background Check & Fingerprinting

UC ANR conducts background checks to ensure a safer and more secure work environment, and in some cases, Federal and State law requires employees who have supervisory or disciplinary authority over a minor to have criminal background screenings. ANR employees in “critical” positions are subject to some level of a background check. If you are required to complete a background check, your position has been identified as a “critical” position with responsibilities for master keys, cash or financial responsibility, human life and property, personal and protected data, and/or who may have direct interaction, supervisory or authority of youth.

Background Check

Background checks involve two separate processes:

  1. California Department of Justice (DOJ) and FBI                                                                      Please refer to the Basic Fingerprint Information for more information.
  2. Background verification through a 3rd party vendor, Sterling Talent Solutions, which may include employment history, educational history, criminal history, social security number trace, credit report, professional certifications, and/or motor vehicle records.

You will receive an email message from Sterling Talent Solutions within 24 hours. Please follow the instructions in the message to begin the process.

Fingerprinting

 [County/Remote:]

Please review the document Basic Fingerprint Information that provides all necessary instructions and information. You can find a fingerprinting location by following the link in the document.

Please make an appointment for fingerprinting in a California location at least two (2) weeks prior to your hire date.  If you are unable to get fingerprinted within this timeframe, please contact Academic HR Supervisor, Becky Sisman as soon as possible.

Please be sure to bring a valid government/state issued photo identification (i.e. driver's license, a state identification card or a passport) when you go in for fingerprinting please bring a copy of the Request for CORI Live Scan Service Form :

  • Request for CORI Live Scan Service form - Please complete only the applicant information section on this form. The ORI# on this form identifies ANR as the employer so that we get the results. Do not complete another Live Scan Request form that the agency might provide you with.
  • Please make a copy of this form once you have completed the applicant section in case you might need to get re-fingerprinted. On occasion, this is necessary when the prints are not clear enough to conduct the check.

Please provide me the date of your fingerprinting, so that I can anticipate the timeframe when ANR can expect the results (ANR will need the results prior to hire date). After we receive clearance on your background checks, Academic Human Resources will follow up with you regarding the required signing of the CORI Employee Statement.

PLEASE NOTE: Fingerprinting cannot be done outside of California. If you do not receive a full clearance by your hire date, an addendum letter will be issued until ANR receives clearance on your DOJ & FBI background checks. This letter will outline work restrictions to your position such as: working with the youth population or children’s programs, and/or master key access.

Employee Statement for CORI Clearance
