Host Oaks

Dead Oak

The goldspotted oak borer (GSOB) has been found in three species of oak in our area: Coast Live Oak (Quercus agrifolia), Canyon Live Oak (Quercus chrysolepis), and California Black Oak (Quercus kelloggii). It has also been identified in Engelmann Oak (Quercus engelmannii), but has not been found to be detrimental.

GSOB usually targets older, more mature trees. Attacks have not been observed in small-diameter oaks (<12 cm at breast height). For specific information on affected species, click on the name of the oak species.
