Lawn Weed Control in September
Pre-emergent Application for Control of Lawn Weeds
Do I need to do anything now to prevent weed problems in my lawn next year?
Apply a preemergent to control for Poa annua or annual bluegrass (it is an annual grass) now. Read product labels carefully to make sure that you're treating for the specific weed in your specific lawn type. Because preemergents prevent seed germination for about 6 weeks, it may be difficult or impossible to time overseeding of a winter dormant lawn with rye or perennial rye grass. See January for timing preemergent application for control of spring lawn weeds.
