Camp Policies

  • NO ALCOHOL, DRUGS (except prescriptions listed on the medical release form and in the original container), TOBACCO OR WEAPONS OF ANY KIND (mace, knives, pepper spray, etc.) WILL BE PERMITTED. Possession of them can result in immediate dismissal from Camp.

  • All medications are held and administered by the Health Supervisor and must be in original containers.

  • Personal vehicles driven to camp will be parked all week and keys will be held by camp staff.

  • Cell Phone Policy:
      • There is no cell phone service at Elkus Ranch, and cell phones have been a distraction at camp when we allowed them to be with campers for "pictures". Therefore there is a no cell phone policy.  If a camper comes with a cell phone, staff will hold it in a safe place until the end of camp.  It is advised that the parents keep their camper's cell phone instead.  Camp should be a place for campers to step outside their comfort zones, meet campers from across the state, and enjoy a week with friends and nature.  Camp staff will be taking pictures throughout the week and we will provide a way for campers to access them.
      • With no cell phones, it should be noted that there are no headphones allowed. No Walkmans, iPods, CD players, etc. are allowed. We expect all campers to be active participants in all events, educational activities as well as social activities.
  • Communication with Campers.  We will provide you with an emergency contact phone number once registered, but this will be for emergencies only, and not a way to contact your camper.

Camp Code of Conduct

Campers, counselors, and adult staff and volunteers are expected to be active, engaged members of this camp. All participants must agree to abide by the following code of conduct and the consequences.

At camp, I will:

  • Be respectful of others including campers, counselors, adult staff and speakers
  • Be on time, pay attention, and participate during lessons
  • Contribute equally in my chore group and town hall group
  • Pick up after myself, including in the conference center and on our field trips
  • Stay with the group, or get permission to be somewhere else from adult staff or a counselor

At camp, I will NOT:

  • Enter areas of camp that are “off-limits”
  • Use inappropriate or disrespectful language, including language that targets anyone for their race, ethnicity, religion, gender, sexual orientation, or disability
  • Haze, threaten, harass, or prank other campers or adults
  • Damage or deface the buildings at camp

A three-strikes policy will be used. In general:

Strike One is a warning.

Strike Two is a call to the parent/guardian for a discussion about the behavior.

Strike Three is a call to the parent/guardian to bring the camper home.

In return, the adult staff, speakers, and counselors promise to listen and respond to camper concerns with empathy and fairness and provide a fun, safe learning experience for all campers at Range Camp.
