November Horticulture Center Updates

In the WEL

November is a lovely time in the water-efficient landscape gardens at the Fair Oaks Horticulture Center.  Time to prune Santa Barbara Daisies (video).

For more favorites, please visit our plant lists for Fall.

In the orchard

It's time to harvest persimmons, quince, lemons and Bearss limes--and sharpen those pruners (video).

Plan now to protect your citrus from frosts and damaging freezes this winter.

See more November orchard activities.

Grow herbs!

Basil does well in our warm climate but can’t tolerate the winter frost.

Take cuttings and grow it indoors!

Composting

Protect yourself while working the compost pile. Potentially harmful pathogens can lurk amongst the "good guys."

Backyard berries

Propagate blackberries.

See more tips for November.

Pest Alerts!

Asian Citrus Psyllid

The Asian citrus psyllid has been found in Sacramento causing a County-wide quarantine. The tiny insect damages citrus fruit but of more importance, it can transmit the deadly citrus disease Huanglongbing (HLB) or citrus greening.  For more:

Brown Marmorated Stink Bug

Brown marmorated stink bugs (BMSB) (Halyomorpha halys) have invaded several areas in Sacramento County.
