Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program (EFNEP)
About EFNEP
The Expanded Food and Nutrition Program (EFNEP) is a federally-funded program through the United States Department of Agriculture National Institute of Food and Agriculture (USDA NIFA) that offers nutrition education to limited-resource families and children in all 50 states and U.S. territories.
In California, EFNEP is administered by the University of California Cooperative Extension in 24 of California's 58 counties. EFNEP assists limited-resource families gain the knowledge, skills, attitudes and changed behavior necessary to choose nutritionally sound diets and improve their well being.
Core Components of EFNEP
Diet Quality/Physical Activity Be active and consume healthy foods and beverages. |
Food Resource Management Be able to buy, grow, appropriately obtain, prepare, and store food that meets nutritional needs. |
