US Honey Industry Economic Impact Questionnaire

 

This survey is being conducted by the University of California Agricultural Issues Center at UC Davis. The information collected will be used to measure the economic contributions of the entire honey industry in the United States.  The National Honey Board provides support for this project.  If you agree to participate, your identity will remain anonymous, and all information provided in your responses will be kept strictly confidential.  Results of this study will be presented as averages or totals for the U.S. honey industry.  Your participation is voluntary.

We want to measure how many direct jobs exist in the U.S. from commercial honey production, processing, importing, wholesale packing, retail packing and marketing.  Please provide the number of individuals per category below that were directly hired by and worked for your honey related business in 2017?

Many agricultural industries rely on contractors to provide needed labor. We want to measure how many contract labor jobs exist in the U.S. from commercial honey production, processing, importing, wholesale packing, retail packing and marketing.  Please provide the number of individuals employed through a contractor who worked in your honey related business in 2017?

Worker compensation is a main contributor of an industry to the U.S. economy. These two questions measure your businesses' total expenses on salaries, wages and benefits for the people who worked in your honey related business in 2017. 

What each honey business spends per year on supplies, materials and services needed to run their business represents a measure of how the U.S. honey industry interacts with the rest of the economy.  The following list represents the supplies, materials and services necessary to manage and maintain beehives, provide pollination services, extract, process and package honey for wholesale and retail, import honey and market honey products to wholesale and retail customers.  For each of the items listed please provide the dollar amounts your business spent during 2017.  For items listed that your business did not purchase please place a zero (0) in the response space provided.

The U.S. honey industry also contributes to the country's economy through investments in capital goods such as vehicles and processing equipment, construction of new facilities and renovation of existing facilities.  For the following categories please indicate the dollar amount paid by your honey related business in 2017. For items listed that your business did not purchase please place a zero (0) in the response space provided.

To determine the economic impact of the U.S. honey industry on the U.S economy it is necessary to relate the number of people employed, salaries and wages earned, costs of supplies, materials and services and value of investments made by your honey business to the production volume of your business.  For production categories listed that are not relevant to your business please place a zero (0) in the response space provided.
