Biography
Dr. Townsend is the recipient of the 2011 Western Extension Directors Award, 2011 UC Davis Academic Federation 'Excellence in Research' Award, Jeanne M. Priester Award for Outstanding Health Education Intervention and Dannon Institute's Award in Community Nutrition. She obtained her BA in biology/chemistry from UC Santa Barbara, MS in Nutrition Science from University of London (Kings College) and her PhD in Nutrition with emphasis on behavior from Pensylvania State University. Dr. Townsend recently received a $1.5 million grant from the National Institute of Food and Agriculture to further her research.
Specialty
Dr. Townsend’s obesity prevention research focuses on improving diets & physical activity of low-income families, program evaluation for EFNEP, intervention development and assessment tool validation.
