I’m sure most gardeners enjoy giving plants as gifts, so that’s a logical Christmas gift. But have you ever come across a really great/pretty/perfect pot, but it really wasn’t so perfect because it didn’t have a hole in the bottom for drainage? Well I have too, but there is a simple solution that nearly anyone can accomplish!
After you find that almost-perfect pot, just follow these simple steps:
- Gather your tools: Drill w/ diamond drill bit, spray bottle of water, thick cloth to cushion pot
- Place pot on cloth, bottom side up & make mark for dead center, or just eyeball it, your call.
- Spray water on bottom so friction won’t crack the pot, keep damp while drilling.
- With the drill at an angle, make a nick in the center of the pot slowly and gently.
- Continue drilling slowly, spraying water, and eventually drill upright to complete the hole.
- Then, voila! Now you have a perfect pot to plant your preferred plants!
My pictures show one of my favorite pots which now holds one of my favorite type of plants …. succulents!
