Through a round-about way, I happened to stumble across information that the following book is set to be released either this month or next month:
The California Garden Tour: The 50 Best Gardens to Visit in the Golden State by Donald Olson. A preview of the book can be seen here: https://www.amazon.com/California-Garden-Tour-Gardens-Golden/dp/1604697229/ref=tmm_pap_swatch_0?_encoding=UTF8&qid=1499834438&sr=8-1
According to what information I could find regarding this book, California Garden Tour seems to have something for everyone. While it is a guide book which lists some of the most notable public gardens in California listed according to their geographic location, it seems to be much more than that. There are beautiful photographs of these gardens to inspire a visit. For the history-loving gardener, a summary of California history as it pertains to the gardens featured in this guidebook as well native plants.
I understand from my research that one of our local gardens in Solano County is either named or featured in this guidebook--the Forrest Deaner Native Plant Botanic Garden located in the Benicia State Recreation Area.
Author Donald Olson is a travel writer, novelist, playwright and avid gardener. His work has appeared in major publications such as the New York Times and National Geographic. He has also authored several travel guides.
