Travel support available for AES faculty and UCCE specialists to work with UCCE advisors or REC directors

UC ANR will be making additional travel support available for UC Cooperative Extension specialists to collaborate directly with CE Advisors or REC Directors in FY 2022/23.

With the level of funds available, each specialist may apply for up to $2,000 for FY 2022/23 (travel reports must be submitted within 30 days of travel, and funds must be expended by June 30, 2023). These travel funds must be used by the CE specialists only and cannot be used for out-of-state travel. Funding is not for the purpose of presenting at or attending meetings.

In recognition of the importance of the partnership between UC ANR academics and Agricultural Experiment Station faculty, UC ANR is expanding the travel support program to include AES faculty as part of a pilot program.

Upon completion of a request, UC ANR will support travel by AES faculty to meet and work with UC ANR county-based or REC-based academics. Support is limited to $1,000 per AES faculty member, with a cap on the total pool of funds available set at $25,000 for FY 2022/23 (funds must be expended by June 30, 2023). Additional support may be available through the campuses; AES faculty should consult their departments or colleges to determine if additional support is available. Travel support must be used by the AES faculty member for their own travel to plan and execute research or present research findings at meetings hosted by UC ANR academics.

Completing a short online survey is the only step to apply for these funds.

A brief survey form is accessible from the ANR Portal. The direct link is https://surveys.ucanr.edu/survey.cfm?surveynumber=37624. The survey asks

•        Name and title of academic requesting support

•        Project/Program name

•        Brief project description (one paragraph)

•        Collaborating advisors

While there is no deadline for applications for these travel funds they are first come, first awarded. They also must be expended in the Fiscal Year 2022/23. Any travel completed toward the end of the Fiscal Year must be submitted and approved within the Fiscal Year as no award will be carried forward.

UCCE specialists and AES faculty may apply for funds directly at https://surveys.ucanr.edu/survey.cfm?surveynumber=37624.

UCOP Ukraine travel advisory

On February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin launched a military invasion of Ukraine. As a result, the United States and other nations have announced sanctions against Russia. These developments have heightened security measures in countries sharing borders with Ukraine, Belarus and Russia, impacting transportation and border crossing in those neighboring countries.

The U.S. State Department has issued a Level 4 — Do Not Travel Warning for Ukraine due to the conflict. As a result, and out of concern for the well-being and safety of the UC community, we are directing all members of the UC community to avoid all travel to Ukraine at this time. Additionally, travel to neighboring countries should be carefully evaluated.

Should travel abroad during this time be necessary, it is of utmost importance that all faculty, staff, and students take the following steps:

Thank you for your cooperation and partnership in keeping our UC community safe.

Sincerely,

Rachael Nava
Executive Vice President, Chief Operating Officer
