Vision 20/20: A fire-resilient California: April 16-17, and ANR-only follow-up meeting, April 18, Redding CA
The fire summit will bring together community leaders, policymakers, and movers and shakers—people like you!—from a wide range of disciplines on April 16-17. Vision 20/20: A Fire-resilient California will expand our understanding of California's fire problem and provide an opportunity to build connectivity, interaction, and integration across disciplines and better understand the complexity of and find solutions to California's wildfire challenge.
On April 18, we'll have an internal ANR meeting where we can share our own work in fire and strategize how together we can better respond to California's fire challenges at local and regional levels. We hope ANR academics and staff from a wide range of disciplines will attend. Travel funds will be available for ANR-affiliated academics and programmatic staff.

Plan to join ANR leadership for the Programmatic Orientation to discuss the mission of UC ANR and our varied roles in California and the University, as well as see examples of successful research and outreach programs. Take this opportunity to engage in discussions with colleagues about the resources and opportunities available through ANR as a division.

Zoom info for staff-performance appraisal webinars offered in March
The annual performance appraisal is an opportunity for staff and supervisors to recognize accomplishments, identify opportunities to build skills, and align individual efforts to high-level unit and division goals. Take time in the next month to review and reflect on the past year, and plan your future work with your supervisor.
The staff performance review period runs from April 1, 2018, through March 31, 2019. An annual appraisal should be completed for all ANR staff employees, including represented and non-represented, career and contract employees with at least six months of service as of March 31, 2019.
This year ANR Human Resources has modified the Employee Performance Appraisal Form to align with the UC system-wide core competencies and to prepare supervisors and employees for the future online appraisal process. Please plan to attend one of the upcoming webinars to learn more.

Scott joins ANR as payroll manager
The ANR Business Operations Center is very pleased to announce the appointment of Anne Marie Scott as ANR payroll manager, effective February 7.
Scott brings strong payroll management and UCPath expertise with 19 years of UC experience in payroll, employment tax and accounts payable management. Most recently, she served as the payroll manager for the UC Office of the President working in the new UCPath system for the past year and a half. Prior to UCOP, she worked for UC Davis for 17 years as a payroll accountant, accounts payable division manager and also as the payroll manager for one of UCD's new shared service centers. She is also a Certified Payroll Professional.
We look forward to Anne Marie's leadership and expertise in the new position of ANR payroll manager. Her experience working in the UCPath system at UCOP will uniquely enhance ANR's transition of payroll services to the new UCPath system. Anne Marie will lead the ANR BOC payroll team providing time reporting and payroll services to all ANR units statewide. She will also work closely with the ANR Human Resources team to ensure efficient coordination between HR actions and payroll services.

Datasets help define stakeholder needs and significance of research, education and extension
Community-based demographic, environmental, economic, social and health data can help us better understand the 40 million people we serve. Whether you are drafting technical reports or applying for grant funding, you may find datasets useful to define stakeholder need and significance of research, education and extension impacts when communicating with potential partners, sponsors and advocates.
Rural County Representatives of California recently released Rural County Representatives of California, Economic and Demographic Profiles. These data sources provide demographic, environmental, economic, social and industry data by county.
County-level profiles can also inform decisions on how best to develop programs and initiatives that benefit farmers and ranchers, strengthen regional food systems and protect natural resources.
The following are just a few more examples of county-level profile datasets that may support your efforts as UC ANR academics and programmatic staff:

Forbes joins ANR as Strategic Communications director
I am pleased to announce that Linda Forbes has accepted our position as UC ANR Strategic Communications director, effective Feb. 19.
Forbes brings over 15 years of communications experience as a marketing and branding leader in the private sector and most recently at UC Davis. Since 2012, she served as associate director of marketing at UC Davis, leading initiatives such as the award-winning monthly Aggie Tip Sheet and major advertising campaigns, as well as collaborating with campus colleagues to promote the impact and value of UC Davis on a variety of digital platforms. If you fly out of the Sacramento airport, you may have seen ads from the last campaign she led, like the “You sip, we solve” ad showcasing UC Davis advances in protecting the water supply.
Before coming to UC, she led marketing for a statewide accounting firm and managed an automotive aftermarket brand. But Linda, whose father was a USDA veterinarian, had a desire to contribute her skills to an organization that solves agricultural and environmental issues.
We look forward to having Linda lead our efforts to transform ANR from the university's “best kept secret” to a well-known, valued service. Please join me in welcoming Linda Forbes to ANR! She is located in the ANR building in room 175.
