Author Jeremy James, Director of the SFREC, deserves recognition for leadership in organizing this crucially important event. The information presented, and made widely available through multiple webcast sites, should stimulate widely-based discussion about a new role for the SFREC. Much, if not all, of the station could be managed as a working ranch. Direct involvement of the California Cattleman's Association, along with the State Department of Water Resources, and the California Institute for Water Resources, along with the development with an industry-wide Advisory Committee to replace the now largely-defunct station Research Advisory Committee would, deservedly, "put the SFREC on the map" as a premiere research, outreach and teaching institute for the resource and stakeholder base it represents.
