Well, finally I have begun to tackle my overdue garden pruning so it will be a fall pruning this year instead of spring. Last week was a skirmish with the side yard bougainvillea, today I started on a bottlebrush or botanically speaking a Callistemon viminalis, or at least I think it is this shrub/tree. It is probably 8-10 feet tall and about the same width. Mine isn't quite as large as one would grow with routine watering, but few plants in front are watered so its a drought environment by design. This bush and most others in front survive with what nature provides, which apparently has been plenty.
This is my first attempt at pruning the bottlebrush and I envision a “limbed up” bushy tree once I have filled up a couple weeks of green can trimmings.
Below you can see the bougie with a new doubled wrapped rubber Bungie to help get it through our upcoming rain without falling over. Believe me, when I tell you without a Bungie the weight of the wet bush topples over in the first good windy rain we get in November.
