Unfortunately, tree topping is a common practice by the crews that top trees for utility companies like PG&E. I have several sycamores at my house in Jackson California that have been topped by obviously untrained crews and they look much like the tree in the picture listed above. I wish there was a way to improve their pruning skills but alas they don’t seem to take my advice and slaughter my gorgeous trees.

Thanks for explaining that there are three methods of pruning and each one is used to perform different purposes. There is a tree between my house and the neighbors, and he plans on cutting trimming the tree himself. I better let him know his so we both can hire a professional to prune the tree correctly.

I wasn't aware that trees need to be helpful for safety, health, and aesthetics! I thought that it was essential to trim trees for safety. There is a tree growing in my front yard and it is about to interfere with the power lines. I need to contact a tree trimming service to help me take care of the tree.
