This is why we need impartial government funding for research. While I'm open to the idea that an industry led group such as the Alliance for Food and Farming could, theoretically, fund impartial research, nevertheless, when a UC professor takes such funding they open themselves up to charges of bias.

To describe the Alliance as, "a non-profit organization that provides a voice for farmers" is not entirely accurate. It's an organization made up of large agricultural interests. It's the same organization that took taxpayer's money, channeled through the CDFA, to attack its critics. I hope for a day when UC researchers do not need to take industry funding to do basic research.
