Smart Device photography is easy and fun! Taking photos on your phone or tablet is a great way to express your creativity and capture some amazing images of nature. I will be explaining how to use the iPhone 6 to take photos however most phones/tablets will have the same options and many more. (You can even take a photo without logging into your phone!!

Getting Started

Find a subject you like, then push the Capture button to take a photo. With some simple steps, you can go from a typical photo to an amazing photo. This is especially true for nature subjects.

Zoom In
One creative way that I have found with photography that helps me really see something is to
zoom in. See the example below. The first photo is a typical photo where the entire subject is
shown. The second photo is so much more interesting by just zooming in on the details of the
succulent. They were taken one right after another but their effect and look are completely
different.

Zooming in is easy. Take your thumb and your pointer finger and pinch them together on the screen and then separate your fingers outward to zoom in on your subject. You can also use the slider bar, at the bottom of your viewing screen, once you have started to zoom with your fingers.

Another easy way to create interesting photos is to look at nature from different positions and perspectives. Look up or bend down and then look at the details in a new way.

Try taking a photo in black and white instead of color. Nature is filled with beautiful colors but sometimes your subject will really stand out when you take your photo in black and white instead. You can do this two different ways. The first way is to choose the Filter icon on the Camera App Home Page, upper right-hand corner. Then scroll to find the black and white options. The other way is to take your photo in color and then go to the Edit button and choose the Filter option at the bottom of the screen. (It is a good idea to duplicate your photo so that you can keep a color option as well.
