Leafing through a national newspaper recently, I stumbled across a feature article on the latest must-have fad — the massive “Trophy Tree.” This new garden fad is for nature lovers with unlimited purchase power because moving it takes a crew and big machinery. Flatbed trucks. 110-ton cranes. Barges or helicopters.
Call me nostalgic, but I am still stuck in the past when angels reigned supreme on greeting cards and as collectible trinkets and statutes. For me, angels in my garden invite contemplation and invoke contentment. More often than not, these winged collectibles are reasonably priced. And since they are easily moveable, I can always find a spot for just one more. Below are four photos from my modest collection.
Albeit a bit more complex than browsing Morning Sun Farm for angel statutes, I found this luxury tree trend sprouting up across the country quite intriguing. Using what is called “Arbor Dividing System,” Green Integritys, a tree broker business in Florida cuts trees vertically into separate organisms. Each cut is composed of roots and foliage. After relocation, the bark grows back to encircle the separate living trees. Tree brokers search in other people's gardens for specific trees to purchase — huge ficus, large canopied oaks, pitch apples, and oil palms, to name a few — and sell the trees to wealthy clients. For more information on the Arbor Dividing System, visit https://greenintegritys.com Also available on this site under “Press & Projects” are numerous photos and articles along with a photo inventory of specific trees.
In the meantime, I'm sticking with my old-fashioned angel collection.
