Hi Scott,  
thanks for the interesting article. I do organic research in the Central Coast of California. Do you have any thoughts on how much field bind weed might affect yields have been in an organic system where systemic herbicides are not available (and the only control option was tillage)? Several years ago I started to see field bind weed showing up in my long-term research experiment, especially after a year with reduced tillage (i.e. following strawberries). Thanks, Eric

Hi Eric --  
Much depends on how well you keep it under control with cultivation or other methods. A lot of weeds at 8 weeks will have reduced impact on yields at the end of the season if they are aggressively weeded at lay-by. This did not occur with my test plots, but may have been a factor at Davis and the reason the yield impacts were less than expected.
