Our 2022 Master Gardener class is newly graduated! Twenty-one devoted individuals took weekly classes for 6 months and learned about:

Soils and fertilizers
Basic horticulture and botany
Growing fruit and vegetables
Water wise and sustainable landscaping
Gardening for pollinators
Integrated pest management
Plant identification

And much more!

What's Ahead for our Program

We hope to see you at our classes this summer at a local library near you, or at the Agricultural Center in Modesto. You can also find us at the Stanislaus County Fair weekends during July 8-17 in our booth just outside the front of the Horticulture Building.

Future Training Classes

Our program is modeled after the UCCE San Joaquin Master Gardeners, which train every-other-year. This means we will not have a training class for new Master Gardeners in 2023.

In the last few years the number of cockroaches, deemed to be of the so called Asian variety has increased astronomically. If I go out at night with a flashlight I can see many. I don't use a pesticide service. I have a large amount of mulch and river rock borders where they hide during the day. I also noticed that recently there are a lot fewer or even none of the common lizards that might eat the roaches. Since they are out at night I doubt birds will control them.
Are there any natural ways to limit them with either plants or predators?

If I missed it, oops!, but how does one get on the "Interest List" for the next Master Gardener session and for the Summer 2023 advertisement/email?
