Most of us learn best by doing, which is why Weed Science School 2011 promises to be better than ever this year.
“We’re offering more hands-on training,” says Cooperative Extension Specialist Joe DiTomaso, chairperson of Weed Science School 2011 to be held at UC Davis Aug. 30-Sept. 1. “We’ll divide participants in small groups of 20 so they can gather around the instructor and experience, first hand, some of the important principals of weed science presented by some of the most respected weed scientists in the world.”
The Weed Science School is an intensive 2-1/2 day course focusing on the mode and mechanism of herbicide activity in plants, the fate of herbicides in the environment and the biology and ecology of weeds. The school is designed for those involved in consulting, research, development, or sales of agricultural chemicals in the private or public sector.
Participants will get an up-close look at weed identification, nozzle-spray equipment, adjuvants and surfactants (additives such as drift retardants that improve the performance of a spray mixture) and symptomology of herbicides.
