Dear Kathy Keatley Garvey, great article and photos as always! But please don't ignore Dr Samuel Ramsey's important body of work that demonstrates clearly that Varroa destructor feeds on honey bees' FAT BODY TISSUE rather than the haemolymph....your phrase, "sucking the bee's lifeblood," reinforces the older, now disproven assumption about haemolymph....you can find several excellent publications and you-tube videos of Dr Ramsey's presentations online...
