Bilingual Small Farms Assistant, Iu Mien-English
Community Education Specialist for the University of California Cooperative Extension
University of California Cooperative Extension (UCCE) provides technical support to farmers through research, workshops and one-on-one assistance. The community education specialist will help to develop a program to work more closely with the Mien farmers in Sacramento/Yolo/Solano counties. This position works directly with and under the supervision of the Small Farms Advisor for this region. Technical expertise would be provided by UC and the role of this position is to assist in programmatic development and outreach efforts. Programmatic development includes workshop production, social media posts, radio programming, and newsletter development, among other activities. Outreach efforts will be conducted in Mien and English and include activities like developing educational leaflets, translating at workshops and farm visits, building a network of farmers, inviting farmers to events, and serving as a communication liaison between Mien speaking growers and our program.
This position is a contract appointment that is 20-30 hours per week, that ends two years from date of hire with the possibility of extension.
Hourly Salary: Min $16.95/hr. to Mid $24.28/hr. plus benefits

Small Farms Community Educator for Yolo/Solano/Sacramento
Under general supervision of the Small Farms Advisor, and working as part of a statewide network of Community Education Specialists and Small Farms Advisors, the incumbent will assist with development and delivery of bilingual educational materials, scheduling and planning outreach and workshops, providing individual technical assistance and extension support to farmers, and assisting with program evaluation, with a focus on regulatory compliance, marketing, specialty crop production, and access to assistance programs and resources for small- to medium-scale, diversified, and socially disadvantaged farmers. Duties include assisting with the creation and delivery of presentations, developing educational tools, conducting outreach and individual meetings with farmers, managing websites and social media tools, assisting with research to identify needs and address challenges for small- to medium-scale, diversified, and socially disadvantaged farmers, and networking with nonprofit partners, policy makers, and regulatory agencies. The team will work closely with non-profit organizations to coordinate and leverage statewide technical assistance efforts.
This position will promote, in all ways consistent with the other responsibilities of the position, accomplishment of the Affirmative Action goals established by the Division.
Full time, M-F
Salary – Min. $18.68/hr. to Mid $26.72/hr.
Bilingual English-Spanish is preferred, though not required.
